On the shore

Josep Sarraté

Sara and Julia take their daughter Nora to the beach for the first time. Although the little girl is very excited about the world she has yet to discover, there is something that worries Sara, making her lost in thought: she is going to that beach to close the mourning for her brother's death. Julia, aware of this, is the support Sara needs to face this reality. Nora, unaware of this situation, insists on playing and building a sandcastle, but her mother dares not go to the shore and makes excuses. Discovering the drawing Julia is making about the last memory she has of the beach is a turning point for Sara to let go of everything she has been repressing. Still, she will have one last step: approaching the shore and helping her daughter build a castle that, to Nora's confusion, the waves keep washing away.
